Staff Reporter:
Tense is prevailing in Bandarban district township as JSS chief regional council chairman SANTU LARMA is visiting the district headquarters today. To resist Janasangati Samitee JSS chief regional council chairman SANTU LARMA’s proposed visit to Bandarban, JAGO PARBOTTABASI calls renewed 72 hrs Hartal (shut down) to be started on Wednesday early in the morning, extending 24 hours more.
On Monday morning at Bandarban Press Club, the leaders including Abdul Jalil, Sirajul Islam, Kamal Hossain and Abidur Rahman Sohag at a press conference announced this revised program. Earlier the program was 48-hrs hartal(shut down). Sources said though the scheduled Pahari Chattra Parishad PCP’s conference is on March 13, Santu Larma planned to travel on March 12, adding one day more. That is why the JAGO PARBOTTABASI extended their shut down schedule, the sources argued.
Meanwhile, in Tuesday evening demonstrators demonstrated under a banner of Jago Parbottabasi and black flags in hand paraded the streets of the township. Later they gathered in middle of township at Bangabandhu Mukta Mancha and staged a rally. The speakers spoke in line of resisting Santu Larma’s tour to Bandarban adding that he engaged to instigate the hill persons in activities like insurgencies, abduction, and raising illegal levy from the commoners. They alleged Santu Larma hatching conspiracy to destabilize the hill districts.
On other hand, JSS Bandarban general secretary Kaba Maung said to parbattanews correspondent that “we will resist those who intend to resist our leader’s Bandarban visit. Government will be responsible if any untoward incident occurred. Later GSS will announce non-stopped program of agitation.” Sadar police station Inspection officer Amir Hossain told additional police force has been deployed to avert the untoward situation.
