In a development that has raised fresh concerns over border security, NDTV reports that thirteen individuals, including two women, have been detained by Amtali police from a residence on the outskirts of Agartala, Tripura. Authorities suspect they illegally entered from Bangladesh.

According to the Indian news channel, after extended interrogation by senior police officials and security agencies, the group was handed over to the Mobile Task Force (MTF) on Wednesday afternoon.

Citing unnamed officials, NDTV stated that the detainees are believed to belong to the Mog and Chakma indigenous communities. They are also suspected of having links to the Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS), a political organization from Bangladesh’s Chittagong Hill Tracts known for its armed activities.

The broadcaster further reports that intelligence agencies are examining possible connections between the group and the recently surfaced militant organization called Tripura United National Front (TUNF), although no official confirmation has been issued.

Initial findings shared by NDTV suggest that the group allegedly crossed into India through Raishyabari in Dhalai district, reportedly following a violent skirmish across the border.

Quoting local law enforcement sources, the news network mentions that several of the male detainees had their legs bandaged, indicating recent injuries that may have occurred during armed conflict before crossing into Indian territory.

As per NDTV, the group had taken refuge in the residence of a man named Nityananda Biswas at Biswas Para, located near Tripura Medical College in the Hapania area of Agartala.

The individuals allegedly travelled over 170 kilometers from the border to the city, claiming to seek medical treatment—raising serious questions about how such a movement escaped detection, according to the report.

The investigation is still underway, and NDTV reports that an official statement from the authorities is expected soon.
