Army says no compromise on border security

The Bangladesh Army has said it will not compromise on national security, especially amid increased tensions along the Myanmar border.

At a press briefing on Monday, Brig Gen Md Nazim-ud-Doula said the proposed humanitarian corridor for Myanmar is a sensitive issue and the army will not be involved in any activity that may affect the country’s sovereignty.

“The situation along the Myanmar border is more sensitive than ever. The army is on full alert,” he said.

He also questioned the reported production of 30,000 uniforms for the Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF), despite the group’s estimated population being only 12,000. “We are seriously investigating the matter,” he added.

On the issue of people being pushed into Bangladesh from India, he said such incidents are “unacceptable.” He added that Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) is handling it, and the army will assist if instructed by the government.

At the same briefing, Colonel Md Shafiqul Islam provided updates on recent army operations.
