Starlink activates in Iran amid Israel tensions

Starlink, the satellite internet service operated by US tech billionaire Elon Musk, has been activated in Iran following widespread internet restrictions imposed by Tehran amid escalating tensions with Israel, NDTV reports.

According to the Indian broadcaster, Musk confirmed the activation in response to a post on X (formerly Twitter) that suggested the Iranian government had shut down internet access to suppress domestic unrest. Musk replied, “The beams are on,” indicating Starlink’s service had been enabled in the country.

NDTV notes that Starlink provides internet connectivity through low Earth orbit satellites, allowing access in remote or disrupted regions where conventional infrastructure is unavailable or restricted.

Iran’s communications ministry imposed nationwide internet restrictions on Friday following a wave of Israeli airstrikes, stating that the limitations would remain in place “until normalcy returns,” according to NDTV citing a report from the ISNA news agency.

“Temporary restrictions have been imposed on the country’s internet,” the ministry said in a statement quoted by ISNA and reported by NDTV.

Meanwhile, NDTV reports that Israel and Iran exchanged new attacks overnight into Sunday, escalating the conflict further. Former US President Donald Trump commented on the developments, stating the conflict could be resolved quickly, while also warning Iran against targeting American assets.

“If we are attacked in any way, shape or form by Iran, the full strength and might of the U.S. Armed Forces will come down on you at levels never seen before,” Trump said in a message posted on Truth Social, as reported by NDTV.

“However, we can easily get a deal done between Iran and Israel, and end this bloody conflict,” he added, according to the network.

In Israel, rescue operations continued as emergency crews searched the rubble of residential buildings destroyed in Iranian missile strikes. At least 10 people, including children, were killed, Israeli authorities said, as cited by NDTV.

The Israeli military has issued warnings to Iranian civilians living near suspected weapons facilities, advising them to evacuate. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the Israeli strikes so far were “only the beginning” of what Iran could expect in the coming days, NDTV reported.
