Abduction ring prime suspect Rohingya youth arrested

Police arrested a Rohingya youth accused of being prime suspect in an abduction ring at a location at Teknaf municipality in Cox’s Bazar on Friday afternoon.

Md Ismail, 34, a resident of a camp for forcibly displaced Rohingya people living in Bangladesh, also had six arrest warrants and accused in six murder cases and in cases of robberies and adductions, said a Cox’s Bazar district police press release issued on Saturday.

Teknaf police officer-in-charge Gias Uddin said that  he was sent to jail through a Cox’s Bazar court on Saturday.

‘The Rohingya youth is accused in 12 cases, including six murders, one robbery and one abduction case with the Teknaf police station,’ the OC added.

Over 1.3 million Rohingyas had fled to Bangladesh amid atrocities by the Myanmar military since 2017, according to government data.

According to the Office of the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner, Rohingyas shelter in 33 camps of Ukhia and Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar and one at Bhasan Char in Noakhali.
