Two killed, including KNA commander, in army operation in Bandarban

Two people, including a KNA commander, were killed and one injured in an army operation in Ruma, Bandarban in the early morning of Thursday. A large quantity of weapons, ammunition, and equipment was also recovered, according to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The operation, which has been underway for 48 hours based on intelligence, began on July 2. At around 9pm that day, three patrol teams from the 36th BIR Ruma Zone left Ruma Bazar Camp with weapons, ammunition, and vehicles, heading towards Layrunpi Para, about 2 km to the east.
Later, a special operation was carried out towards Poliprangsha, about 10 km to the east in Paindu Union. Intelligence teams, who had been providing continuous support, assisted with information and technical guidance during the operation.
Intelligence sources confirmed the militants’ location, prompting another patrol team from the Munnam Para Camp to join the operation.
An armed clash took place between the army and KNA militants in the area between Poliprangsha and Mualpi Para. Some militants fled, and two KNA members were found dead, while one was seriously injured. One of the deceased is believed to be a major-level KNA commander. Efforts to verify the identities of the casualties are ongoing.
The army also recovered three submachine guns (SMGs), a Chinese rifle, ammunition, military gear, walkie-talkies, mobile phones, and several thousand taka in cash. The recovered Chinese rifle is suspected to have been one of the weapons stolen from police during a bank robbery.
The operation is still ongoing.
