Publish July Declaration by Aug 3 or face movement, Nahid warns govt

The National Citizen Party (NCP) has warned of a movement if the government does not release the “July Declaration” and “July Charter” by 3 August.

“We want to see both documents published by that date. If not, we’ll take to the streets with students and the public,” said NCP convenor Nahid Islam at a rally in Magura on Thursday.

The remarks came during the tenth day of the party’s “July March,” which reached Magura after passing through Jhenaidah.

The march began at 1:20 pm near Magura Sadar Upazila Parishad and ended at Vaina Mor after covering several key roads in the town.

At a short rally near the Independence Monument on the Dhaka–Khulna highway, Nahid said their struggle is for a fair and democratic Bangladesh that is free from corruption, extortion, and violence.

He also urged locals to speak out against wrongdoing and said the party plans to expand its presence in Magura.

Referring to the July Uprising, Nahid said ten people from Magura lost their lives and their sacrifices must be honoured. “They died hoping for a new Bangladesh. That’s why we’re here,” he said.

NCP chief organiser (south) Hasnat Abdullah, chief organiser (north) Sarjis Alam, and chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari, among others, joined the march.
