BGB soldier loses leg in landmine explosion on Bangladesh-Myanmar border

A Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) soldier lost his leg in a landmine explosion along the Naikhongchhari border on Saturday morning.

The incident occurred around 10:50am while a BGB patrol team was operating in the Tumbru border area of Naikhongchhari upazila.

Nayek Mohammad Akhtar Hossain of the 34 BGB Battalion lost one leg in the explosion, while his other leg was severely injured, officials said.

He was initially taken to a local hospital for treatment before being shifted to Ramu Combined Military Hospital (CMH) for advanced care.

Lt Col SM Khairul Alam, commanding officer of the 34 BGB Battalion based in Cox’s Bazar, confirmed the incident to reporters.

He said the explosion occurred while a BGB patrol was moving along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border near Tumbru. “The injured member has been admitted to Ramu CMH for better treatment,” he added.
