The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has published a public notice against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 261 others in connection with a sedition case linked to the controversial online platform “Joy Bangla Brigade.”

The notice was published on Friday in two national dailies — The Daily Star and Amar Desh — following an order from a Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court, CID officials confirmed.

In a statement, Jasim Uddin Khan, Special Superintendent of Police (Media) at the CID, said the agency had been authorised to file the sedition case under Section 196 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) with the approval of the Ministry of Home Affairs. Acting as the complainant, the CID lodged the case in court accordingly.

According to investigators, the “Joy Bangla Brigade” operated from both within Bangladesh and abroad, allegedly engaging in conspiratorial activities aimed at toppling the legitimate government.

CID officials said they had completed the investigation “efficiently and professionally” and submitted a charge sheet against 286 individuals, including Sheikh Hasina, to the court. The inquiry involved collecting and conducting forensic analysis of data from digital platforms, servers, and social media.

On October 30, Judge Ariful Islam of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court No. 17 declared Sheikh Hasina and 261 others absconding and ordered the CID to publish the notice in national newspapers.

Following that order, the CID published the notice on Friday. Officials said the case is now ready for the next phase of court proceedings.

The CID statement added that the agency is “playing a vital role in ensuring justice and implementing the judicial agenda of the interim government.”
