Prof Yunus visits Khaleda Zia at Evercare

The Bangladesh interim government chief adviser, Professor Muhammad Yunus, visited Evercare Hospital in Dhaka on Wednesday evening to check on the health of Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson and former prime minister Khaleda Zia who has been admitted to the hospital since November 23.

The chief adviser arrived at the hospital at about 7:00pm to see Khaleda who has been in a critical condition with lung infection since November 27. Yunus was welcomed by BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

He was then escorted to the fourth-floor Critical Care Unit, where Khaleda is receiving treatment.

The BNP media cell confirmed that the chief adviser spent a few minutes beside her bedside in the CCU and offered prayers for her recovery.

Medical board member Zafor Iqbal subsequently briefed him on Khaleda’s latest health status.

According to BNP media cell member Shairul Kabir Khan, the chief adviser was accompanied by the head of the medical board, Professor Shahabuddin Talukdar, Khaleda’s personal physician AZM Zahid Hossain, and Khaleda’s youngest son’s wife Syeda Shamila Rahman.

The chief adviser remained at the hospital for about half an hour before departing.

On November 27, Khaleda was moved to the Critical Care Unit, where she remained under the care of a joint medical team comprising doctors from the United States, the United Kingdom and Bangladesh.Political biography book

The 79-year-old politician has long been suffering from multiple health conditions, including arthritis, diabetes, kidney complications and eye problems.

She travelled to London for advanced treatment on January 7 and returned to Bangladesh on May 6 after 117 days of medical care.
