Army chief hands over regimental colour to 9 units

Chief of Army Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed awarded regimental colour to nine units of Bangladesh Army in Chattogram Cantonment on Wednesday (Nov 16, 2022).

General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed was present in the programme held at East Bengal Regimental Centre in the cantonment as the chief guest.

Bangladesh Army’s 17 Field Regiment Artillery, 20 Engineer Construction Battalion, 24 Bir, 27 Bir, 28 Bir, 30 Bir, 31 Bir, 32 Bir and 33 Bir participated in the colour parade and officially received the regimental flag from the chief guest.

General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Army Training and Doctrine Command (ARTDOC) Lt Gen Ahmed Tabrez Shams Chowdhury and GOC of 24 Infantry Division and Area Commander Chattogram Maj Gen Mizanur Rahman Shamim welcomed the Chief of Army Staff when he reached the MR Chowdhury parade ground.

Then, a smart contingent led by Lt Col Md Ahsan Habib Rajib, commander of 32 Bir, paraded and saluted the Chief of Army Staff.

A regimental colour is awarded to a unit or regiment in recognition of its bearing and carrying glorious heritage, special contribution to the service of the Bangladesh Army and the Motherland and success in various training and operational activities.

Addressing the programme, General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed urged   all the unit members to be ready to face the challenges of the 21st century through modern and up-to-date training.

Finally, the Army Chief thanked all concerned for an orderly, graceful and colourful parade on the occasion of the presentation of regimental colours.

Senior officers of the Army and Navy and senior officials of the local civil administration and military personnel of various ranks were present in the programme.
