Bangladesh Coast Guard boosts border patrols to curb Rohingya infiltration
Amid the escalating conflict in Myanmar, the Bangladesh Coast Guard has ramped up its patrols and surveillance efforts along the Teknaf border in a bid to curb Rohingya infiltration.
A press release issued by the Teknaf Coast Guard station detailed that the heightened state of alert is a direct response to the unrest in Myanmar, aiming to shield Bangladesh’s coastal frontiers from any negative repercussions.
The ongoing skirmishes and exchanges of gunfire between Myanmar’s military junta and the Arakan Army have instilled fear among the residents of coastal communities adjacent to the Bangladesh border.
Leveraging the turmoil in Myanmar, the Bangladesh Coast Guard has bolstered its stance to thwart any new attempts at Rohingya infiltration, alongside combating human trafficking, smuggling, and the illicit drug trade.
To this end, patrols are being conducted around the clock from Teknaf to Shah Porir Dwip under the guidance of Lt. Commander Lutful Kabir Majid, with the deployment of advanced high-speed boats and continuous patrol ship operations.
Additionally, the strategic positioning of extra personnel in Teknaf, Shah Porir Dwip, Baharchhara, and St. Martin ensures ongoing vigilance.
