10 arrested in kidnapping of Marma youth in Narayanganj

Police have arrested nine Chakma workers and one Bengali for allegedly kidnapping Chaihla Marma, 22, an employee at the Meghna Fresh Economic Zone in Narayanganj.
The abduction took place on Wednesday night in the Tiprdi area. Authorities rescued Marma from the Goaldi area of Sonargaon Municipality on Thursday night.
The suspects are: Jakmon alias Suman Chakma, Palash Jyoti Chakma, Rukel alias Sunil Bikash Chakma, Tontu Chakma, Sujon Chakma, Rasel Chakma, Mintu Chakma, Himalay Chakma, Jurnya Chakma, and Habibur Rahman.
Chaihla Marma’s mother, Athuima Marma, filed a kidnapping case with the Sonargaon police.
In her complaint, she stated that her son was abducted by a group led by Suman Chakma and Palash Jyoti Chakma while returning home from work. The kidnappers took him to the second floor of Habibur Rahman’s house in Goaldi, where they beat him and demanded a ransom of Tk 90 thousand. Athuima Marma paid Tk 50 thousand in two installments before police intervened.
Sonargaon police Sub-Inspector Pankaj Kanti Sarkar said, “Using technology, we arrested people involved in the kidnapping from the Goaldi area. A case was filed on Friday morning.”
Officer-in-Charge Md. Mohsin added, “The suspects were sent to the Narayanganj District Judge’s Court on Friday afternoon.”
