Rumors spread about St. Martin’s Island: ISPR

Unintended firing incidents have occurred on Bangladeshi boats in the Naf River and adjacent estuary areas due to clashes between Myanmar’s military and the Arakan Army in Rakhine State, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed Sunday.

Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed deep concern and protested on June 12, according to ISPR. Following this, the Myanmar Navy, positioned near St. Martin’s Island and along the Naf River border, fired at Arakan Army positions in Myanmar. The Arakan Army also targeted Myanmar Navy’s ships and boats.

Multiple Myanmar Navy warships are currently operating near the Myanmar border. The Myanmar Navy has informed the Bangladesh Navy about its positioning near St. Martin’s Island.

ISPR stated that the conflict in Myanmar is ongoing in its mainland and coastal areas. Several ships of the Bangladesh Navy and Coast Guard are patrolling within Bangladesh’s maritime boundaries, monitoring the movements of Myanmar’s ships near St. Martin’s Island. Social media rumors are being spread due to the conflict’s proximity to St. Martin’s Island. The public is urged not to be misled by these rumors.
