Fresh Rohingya influx puts enormous pressure on govt bodies

The prolonged ongoing Rohingya crisis has worsened with a new wave of influx, creating enormous pressure on the local administration and key government agencies for adopting feasible measures.

This was stated in a consultation meeting with the presence of foreign secretary Md. Jashim Uddin, who is also the Chair of the National Task Force on Forcibly Displaced Myanmar Nationals (FDMNs) held at Cox’s Bazar on Friday, a press release said in Dhaka on Monday.

The discussion in the meeting focused on conditions of the Rohingya camps and addressing issues impacting both the camps and the host communities.

The meeting highlighted the urgency of sustainable repatriation of the forcibly displaced Rohingya to their homeland, for social, ecological and economic restoration in Cox’s Bazar.

The humanitarian and security aspects of the camps featured prominently in the discussions.

The foreign ministry is working with the United Nations for the High Level Conference on Rohingya issue as proposed by Chief Adviser Prof Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Foreign Secretary informed.

The meeting was conducted by Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate, Cox’s Bazar Mohammad Salahuddin.

The two-day visit, on November 8 to 9, offered the Foreign Secretary with the opportunity to directly observe the activities and coordination efforts of various agencies, including the Office of the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC) and international partners, in responding to the Rohingya crisis.
