Members of Myanmar’s Arakan Army kidnapped 10 Bangladeshi fishermen during a fishing expedition in the Naf River near the Palongkhali border in Ukhia, local officials confirmed Wednesday.

The abduction occurred early Wednesday morning as the fishermen were in the Naf River, according to M. Gofur Uddin Chowdhury, the chairman of the Palongkhali Union.

“The fishermen were taken by members of the Arakan Army,” Chowdhury stated. He added that the incident has been reported to higher authorities.

Md. Tanvir Hossain, the Ukhia upazila nirbahi officer, said he was informed of the incident around 1 AM through the local UP chairman. “

Given the international nature of this issue, efforts to rescue the kidnapped by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) are underway,” Hossain explained.
