BSF detains 23 Bangladesh nationals in Feni border

The Indian Border Security Force reportedly detained 23 Bangladeshi nationals at Chhagalnaiya border in Feni on Monday night.
The BGB-4 Feni battalion commander Lieutenant Colonel Sheikh Mohammad Badruddoza said that they came to know that the incident took place at the Bangladesh-India border’s 99 number pillar near Chhagalnaiya border as the Bangladeshi nationals were allegedly smuggling sugar.
Legal actions would be taken if the allegation were proved well-grounded, he added.
People of the area said that over 100 workers were smuggling sugar sacks at the area on Monday night when the BSF members chased them.
The detainees are Simum Hossian, Raisul Islam, Md Samin, Md Harun, Md Liton and Mainuddin of Purba Chhagalnaiya village while Md Mohsin, Kazi Ripon, Tajul Islam, Md Hanif, Abul Hasan, Md Imran, Md Rubel, Jafar Imam, Md Obaidul, Jmala Uddin, Arif Hossain and Md Karim of Radhanagar area and Md Khorshed, Azad Hossain, Md Mahim, Md Harun and Imam Hossain of Chhagalnaiya’s Motua area.
The BGB battalion commander also said that no relatives of the alleged detainees submitted any written complaint till Tuesday afternoon.
But we came to know that the relatives were submitting the detainees’ national identity cards and birth certificates at the Purba Chhagalnaiya BGB camp, he added.
Chhagalnaiya police station officer-in-charge Md Hasan Imam said that no written complaint was submitted to them till Tuesday afternoon.
