Former Minister Kujendra Lal named in case over attempted murder of journalist in Khagrachhari

PARBATTANEWS DESK
A case has been filed against former State Minister Kujendra Lal Tripura and 127 others in connection with an alleged attempt to murder a journalist in Khagrachhari.
The plaintiff is H M Prafulla, General Secretary of the Khagrachhari Press Club and district correspondent for BanglaVision.
His lawyer, Md Afsar Hossain Roni, said the case was lodged on Tuesday afternoon in the court of Judge Tarek Aziz Rayhan of the Khagrachhari Amli (Magistrate) Court.
According to the lawyer, the court accepted the case and directed Abdul Baten Mridha, Officer-in-Charge of Khagrachhari Sadar Police Station, to conduct an investigation.
The case names seven people directly, while 120 others remain unidentified. It also alleges that the accused harassed the journalist through posts on social media.
Besides Mr Tripura, the individuals named in the case include Khagrachhari District Awami League Office Secretary Chandan Kumar Dey, Main Uddin Bhutto, Nurul Islam, M F Rabbi, Mohammad Mehedi Hasan, and Rahim Mia Naeem, also known as Arefin Naeem.
The complaint states that on 4 August 2024, while covering news of an attack involving students and locals in Khagrachhari, journalists came under assault.
It alleges that the group was led by Mr Tripura, and that several journalists, including Mr Prafulla, were injured.
The complaint further says that on 5 August, after Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country, Mr Prafulla began publishing a series of reports on terrorism, corruption and irregularities during the Awami League’s tenure.
It alleges that in response, Mr Tripura and his associates became angered and used multiple Facebook accounts to post defamatory content.
According to the complaint, the posts targeted Mr Prafulla, Khagrachhari District BNP President Wadud Bhuiyan, and Press Club President Tarun Kumar Bhattacharya.
The case claims these posts were intended to socially humiliate the three individuals and to cause political and financial harm.
