‘Idea that Islam won’t remain is not Hindu thinking’: RSS’s Mohan Bhagwat

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat has said the organisation does not believe in attacking anyone on religious grounds and insisted that Hindu thinking does not suggest that Islam will cease to exist, reports Press Trust of India.
Speaking at the centenary celebrations of the RSS in New Delhi on Thursday, Mr Bhagwat stressed that religion is a matter of individual choice and should not involve coercion or inducement, the agency noted.
“Hindus are insecure due to a lack of confidence. No Hindu thinks there will be no Islam. We are one nation first… The RSS doesn’t believe in attacking anyone, including on religious lines,” he said.
Mr Bhagwat also commented on the naming of public places and roads, saying they should not bear the names of “aggressors.” “I am not saying they should not be named after Muslims, but they should not be named after aggressors,” he added, according to the report.
On reservation policies, Mr Bhagwat said the RSS fully supports Constitutionally-mandated quotas and will continue to back them as long as required, PTI reported.
He also addressed the caste system, describing it as outdated and irrelevant in contemporary society. “The caste system was there once, but has no relevance today. Caste is no longer a system; it is outdated, and it has to go,” he said.
Mr Bhagwat added that there was a need to move towards an egalitarian and exploitation-free system. “While the outdated system goes, it should be seen that it does not have a destructive effect on society,” PTI added.
