Khasru flies to London ahead of Yunus–Tarique meeting

BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has travelled to London ahead of a scheduled meeting between Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus and BNP acting chairperson Tarique Rahman, set for Friday, 13 June.

Chattogram Metropolitan BNP Convener Ershad Ullah confirmed Khasru’s departure, stating, “He left from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka last night,” while speaking to journalists in the port city on Tuesday.

Khasru had been expected to attend a political meeting on Tuesday morning to discuss the current situation but was absent due to his overseas travel.

On Monday, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told reporters that the upcoming Yunus–Tarique meeting could prove to be a significant step in addressing the country’s ongoing political standoff.

“The chief adviser has invited our acting chairperson to a meeting. It will take place at the hotel where he [Yunus] is currently staying,” Fakhrul said, adding that the meeting is scheduled to be held from 9am to 11am London time on Friday.

Yunus has recently announced that the 13th parliamentary election will be held during the first half of April 2026. The BNP has opposed the timeline, reiterating its longstanding demand for elections to be held by December this year.
