The Kuki Chin National Front (KNF) is under suspicion for allegedly setting a truck ablaze in Thanchi, Bandarban.
The incident, which took place around 4 p.m. on Sunday (18 February) in the Baklai 11 Kilometer area along a border road in Thanchi, involved a dumper truck used for transporting construction materials for a road project.
Local sources suggest that the attack, which saw the vehicle completely engulfed in flames, is attributed to members of the Kuki-Chin National Front, a group known for its insurgent activities in the region.
Md. Ismail Hossain Mia, the acting officer of the Thanchi Fire Service Station, led the firefighting efforts that successfully extinguished the fire. “Upon receiving the report of the fire, our team promptly responded and managed to control the blaze,” Mia stated.
Mohammad Jasim Uddin, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Thanchi Police Station, confirmed the incident, indicating that preliminary findings point towards the involvement of KNA members.
“We are operating under the assumption that this act was carried out by members of the KNA,” he said, adding that no formal complaints have been filed as of yet.
