Roadmap delay may raise questions about govt’s intent: Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said any delay in announcing an electoral roadmap could raise questions about the government’s intentions.

“I hope the interim government will act wisely and sincerely, starting with a prompt announcement of the roadmap,” he said in a Facebook post on Tuesday. “The longer the delay, the more doubts will grow among the people.”

Fakhrul, currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Bangkok after eye surgery, said he is closely monitoring political developments.

He welcomed Monday’s political meeting, saying it gave him hope. He called for clear progress on democratic transition, justice for those affected over the past 15 years – particularly in July 2024 – and necessary reforms.

“Democratic transition, justice, and reform are not contradictory,” he said. “They can go hand in hand. This is the right path forward for the nation.”
