Two more Rohingyas were injured in this incident. They are Md Yunus and Sabi Ullah of the same camp who were also engaged in guarding the camp along with Salim.
Armed Police Battalion-8 commander Amir Zafar said that there was a gunfight between two groups in Balur Math area of Block E-3 of Rohingya Camp-14 at Hakimpara of Ukhia.
On receiving information, a team of the battalion reached the spot and the fighters fled, he said.
Later, when the situation came under control, Salim was found dead and the rest two with bullet wounds, said Amir Zafar.
The police initially believe that the murder occurred in a clash between two armed groups of Rohingyas parlaying for power within the camp, he said, adding that police were conducting an operation to identify and arrest the people involved in the incident.
At least 64 Rohingyas were killed in camps in 2023, and 20 were killed until the first week of June 2024, according to the Rapid Action Battalion.
