Yunus vows peaceful, impartial February polls

Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has pledged that his interim government will take all necessary measures to ensure a peaceful and impartial national election scheduled for February.
“Our responsibility is to remain neutral,” Yunus told a Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) delgation on Tuesday evening.
“The election is a grand event. We will select the person who is capable of maintaining peace and order here. It will be under my supervision. We will do whatever is necessary to make the election peaceful and impartial,” he said.
The meeting took place at the state guest house Jamuna as part of the government’s dialogue with political parties ahead of the polls.
Yunus, who also oversees the Ministry of Public Administration, said all administrative reshuffles before the election would be made under his direct supervision.
He added that deputy commissioners would be appointed based on qualifications and assigned to appropriate posts before the polls.
The BNP delegation was led by Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
BNP standing committee members Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury and Salahuddin Ahmed were also present.
From the interim government, Planning Adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud, Law Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul, and Industries Adviser Adidur Rahman attended the meeting.
