Representatives from 40 countries will attend an international conference on the Rohingya crisis in Cox’s Bazar on 25 August, the Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam has said.

He told reporters the event would also be joined by several international organisations and United Nations agencies. According to him, the conference will give members of the Rohingya community an opportunity to engage directly with delegates and present their views.

Shafiqul Alam said a related programme will take place on 24 August, ahead of the main conference. Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus is scheduled to travel to Cox’s Bazar on 25 August. The conference will conclude on 26 August.

The press secretary said the interim government is treating the Rohingya issue as a priority. He explained that Bangladesh is working with a number of stakeholders to ensure the crisis remains a subject of international attention.

According to officials, three international conferences have been planned. The first will begin in Cox’s Bazar on 24 August. The second, described as the largest, will take place at the United Nations on 30 September, with participation expected from 170 countries. A third meeting is planned in Doha, Qatar.

Shafiqul Alam said bringing the concerns of the Rohingya to international forums has been challenging. He described their situation as a humanitarian crisis that requires continued attention.
