Hundreds of armed hill attackers vandalised a mosque and several shops in Rangamati’s Banarupa area on Thursday, leaving five people injured.

The attack took place around 10:00am on Friday, when a group of armed individuals launched a sudden assault on the area, locals said. The attackers also set fire to auto-rickshaws and motorcycles parked on the road.

Eyewitnesses reported that panic spread as the attackers began vandalising the mosque and nearby shops. Five people were injured during the violence. Frightened residents fled the area, but about an hour later, locals attempted to resist the attackers.

The assailants later regrouped near Happy Mor. The absence of law enforcement at the scene has drawn frustration from the local community, who expressed anger over the delay in response. The situation remains tense in the area.

At the time of filing this report, no statement had been provided by the police authorities.
