New polling shows a drop in support for Israel among Americans, most notably among young people, Al Jazeera reports citing Israeli outlet Mariv.

A Harvard/Harris poll found that overall support for Israel had dropped from 80 per cent to 75 per cent of Americans surveyed over two years, while the percentage of those who were opposed to Israel had risen from 21 to 30.

The newspaper noted that support for Hamas was rising, with 25 per cent of respondents saying they supported Hamas over Israel, compared with 16 per cent in November.

Support for Hamas was strongest among the young, with 47 per cent of 18-24 year olds polled saying they backed the group more than Israel, and 38 per cent of 25-34 year olds.
