BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said the party will never compromise on the question of the country’s independence and sovereignty.

“We will certainly strive to build economic growth by placing our national interest above all. We will try to bring smiles to the faces of all people — farmers, workers, and the toiling masses,” he said.

Fakhrul made the remarks while joining virtually an event organised by the Bangladesh Nationalist Social and Cultural Organisation (Jasas) at the Central Shaheed Minar on Thursday evening (November 13), marking the 50th anniversary of National Revolution and Solidarity Day.

The BNP secretary general said the party will form a “people’s government” if it returns to power in the future.

“In today’s situation, following a mass uprising, we will be able to form a truly people’s government in Bangladesh through an election,” he added.

Referring to the political philosophy of Ziaur Rahman, Fakhrul said, “Ziaur Rahman’s political philosophy was Bangladeshi nationalism. After coming to power, the late national leader led the country toward political reform and established multi-party democracy in place of one-party rule.”
