ICC denies accreditation to Bangladeshi journalists for T20 World Cup coverage

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has rejected accreditation applications from Bangladeshi journalists seeking to cover the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, meaning no media representative from Bangladesh will be able to attend matches in person, according to multiple reports.

The move comes amid broader uncertainty around Bangladesh’s involvement in the tournament after the ICC announced that Scotland would replace Bangladesh at the 2026 T20 World Cup, following the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s refusal to participate under the published schedule. Under the earlier schedule, Bangladesh were set to play three group matches in Kolkata and one in Mumbai. A number of Bangladeshi journalists had applied within the ICC’s deadline to cover both Bangladesh’s matches and the tournament as a whole, the reports said.

Bangladeshi sports journalists have voiced strong and frustration over the ICC’s accreditation decision, saying it undermines independent sports journalism and deprives local fans of on-the-ground coverage of one of the biggest events in the cricket calendar.
