Daughter of Bangladeshi-Rohingya couple caught trying to register as voter in Cox’s Bazar

A young woman has been caught trying to register as a voter showing fake and forged documents in Cox’s Bazar’s Teknaf upazila.

She was identified as Kohinoor Akter, daughter of Bangladeshi man Mohammad Siddiq of Laturikhola area of Hoikong union of Teknaf upazila and Myanmar’s Rohingya woman Senwara Begum sheltering in Bangladesh.

To have her photograph taken for registering as a voter, Ms Akter went to Teknaf Upazila Election Office at 11am on Sunday (August 7), officials concerned said.

At the time, the Office found her documents to be fake and forged and handed her over to Teknaf Model Police Station, they said.

Teknaf Upazila Election Officer Md Bedarul Islam said they have handed her over to police as she was trying to enroll as a voter showing fake and forged documents.

Hoikong Union Parishad Chairman Noor Ahmed Anwari has also started a case with Teknaf Model Police Station in this regard, he said.

Marriages between Bangladeshis and Rohingyas have been banned in Bangladesh.
