The families of three Kuki Chin National Front (KNF) members, who were killed in a gunfight with the army in Ruma Upazila, have not come forward to claim their bodies, authorities said.
The police handed over the bodies to the Bandarban Municipality after no relatives stepped up, Bandarban Additional Superintendent of Police Raihan Kazemi said.
The gunfight occurred Sunday afternoon on the Ruma-Roangchhari border in the Paikhyong and Raonin Para areas. The clash involved armed KNF terrorists and a joint force led by the army. The three deceased were identified as Eddie Thang Bom, 24; Rualsangiam Bom, 23; and Rualminlian Bom, 20.
Police confirmed the identities of the terrorists but said no family members came to claim the bodies. Following autopsies, the bodies were handed over to the municipality and subsequently buried in the Christian cemetery of Limee Para in Sadar Upazila.
The ongoing joint operation, led by the army, is in response to alleged KNF involvement in recent incidents of bank robbery, mosque attacks, abduction, and looting in Ruma and Thanchi.
