Gunfight between BGB and robbers at Naikhongchhari border, one Injured

A gunfight erupted early Monday between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and a smuggling syndicate led by notorious robber Nizam at the Naikhongchhari border, leaving one gang member injured.
The clash occurred around 6 am at Morichachor Malakata Ghona in the Gorjania Union, adjacent to the Naikhongchhari border in Bandarban.
Lt Col Sahal Ahmed Nobel, commander of the 11th BGB Battalion, said in a press release that the BGB’s anti-drug and smuggling patrol team launched an operation after receiving intelligence about Yaba trafficking. The robbers, led by Nizam, ambushed the patrol team, firing shots and hurling petrol bombs, setting four motorcycles ablaze. BGB members returned fire in self-defense, wounding one gang member.
During the operation, the BGB fired 50-60 rounds and seized 20,000 Yaba tablets and Burmese cigarettes from the scene.
Abul Kashem, a member of the Gorjania Union Parishad, said that the robbers were smuggling foreign cigarettes from Myanmar. Authorities confiscated Yaba tablets and Burmese cigarettes valued at Tk 8 million . The incident has spread panic throughout the Naikhongchhari border and Gorjania areas.
