Gunfire exchange between JSS and UPDF in Khagrachhari

STAFF REPORTER

A fierce gun battle broke out between armed members of the JSS-Santu and UPDF-Prasit in the remote Naraichar area of Babuchhara Union in Dighinala Upazila of Khagrachhari district on Wednesday afternoon.

An estimated 250 to 300 rounds of ammunition were exchanged between the two groups during the hour-long battle.

There were no immediate reports of casualties, but the entire area was thrown into panic. The area is so remote that no government officials have yet been able to reach it.

A JSS leader, who spoke to the Parbatta News on condition of anonymity, said that the UPDF launched an unprovoked attack on the JSS. This led to gunfire between the two groups, which lasted for about an hour.

The UPDF, on the other hand, claimed that the JSS deliberately entered UPDF-controlled territory and held a meeting with local residents, creating tension. This led to the gunfire.

Neither side has been able to confirm any specific information about casualties. However, allegations have been flying back and forth between the two sides over a picture of dead people that has been circulating on social media.
