A bittersweet day for Bangladesh in table tennis

Bangladesh had a bittersweet day in the table tennis event at NEC Table Tennis court in Birmingham Commonwealth Games where there was a great comeback and an unfortunate walkover of the table tennis team.

Rifat Sabbir made a brilliant fight back from the edge of elimination and won against his rival from the Maldives by 4-3 sets in the men’s singles table tennis event.

Rifat lost the first two sets to Moosa Munsif Ahmed of the Maldives by 8-11 and 5-11 points but he won the next two by 11-6 and 11-4 points. After that he lost again in the fifth set by 7-11 but he staged a great comeback by winning back-to-back matches by 11-8 and 11-7 points.

Another participant in men’s singles from Bangladesh with Rahmhimlian Bawm lost to Owen Cathcart by 4-0.

In women’s singles, Sadia Rahman Mou defeated Roana Abel of Vanuatu 4-0 in her first match and in her second match she lost to Esther Oribamise by the same margin. Sonam Sultana defeated Connie Sifi from the Solomon Islands by 4-0, but in her second match, she had to give walkover to Canada’s Katherine Morin due to injury.
