APBn to be deployed at vacant army camps

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal is set to lay the foundation stone of the office of the DIG, APBn (Armed Police Battalion) in CHT (Chattogram Hill Tracts) today, Thursday, May 26, 2022.

He will lay the foundation stone of the office of the DIG, APBn in Rangamati’s Sukhi Neelganj Police Lines at 10:45am, according to an itinerary of the home minister.

As per the CHT Peace Accord, APBn will be deployed at the vacant army camps in the CHT.

During a special law and order meeting in 2019, Mr Kamal had spoken for setting up police camps in the CHT in order to stop killings, extortion and terrorism in the hill tracts.

Ahead of launching the APBn offices in the CHT, a preparatory meeting took place at the home ministry on May 17.

Senior Secretary Md Akhtar Hossain had told the meeting that foundation stones would be laid for the office of the DIG, APBn, three APBN headquarters and three of the proposed 30 camps on May 26, 2022.

Police would be gradually deployed in the vacant army camps, he had added.

Home Minister Kamal has been visiting the CHT since yesterday, Wednesday, May 25, 2022.
