ARSA chief Ataullah, 9 operatives arrested

Rapid Action Battalion-11 arrested 10 Rohingya people, including Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army’s top leader Abu Ammar Jununi alias Ataullah, from Narayanganj and Mymensingh districts in two separate drives on Monday and Tuesday.

RAB-11 arrested six, including ARSA chief Ataullah, from Siddirganj upazila in Narayanganj on Tuesday and four other ARSA members from Mymensingh on Monday in two separate drives, RAB said in a press release.

The arrested are ARSA chief Ataullah, 48, and second in command Mostak Ahmed, 66, along with other members namely Moniruzzman, 33, Salimullah, 27, Mst Asmaul Husna, 23, Md Hasan, 15, Asmatullah, 24, Md Hasan, 43, Mst Shahina, 22 and Mst Senowara, 17, according to RAB.

RAB said that they had seized Tk 51.39 lakh, some US dollars, Malaysian ringgit and other foreign currencies, ARSA combat uniforms and knives.

RAB legal and media wing director lieutenant colonel Ashikur Rahman said that they had arrested six, including ARSA chief Ataullah, from Narayanganj.

He said that they also arrested four ARSA members from Mymensingh on Monday night.

Siddhirganj Police Station officer-in-charge Mohammad Shahinur Alam said that a Narayanganj court on Tuesday remanded six people in police custody for 10 days while three women and a minor were sent to jail.

The OC said that the accused gathered in Narayanganj and Mymensingh to engage in criminal activities.
