Daylight robberies hit Thanchi’s Sonali and Krishi Banks following Ruma incident

BANDARBAN CORRESPONDENT

After the Sonali Bank in Ruma Upazila was robbed, two more branches of the Sonali and Krishi Banks in Thanchi Upazila, Bandarban, fell victim to daylight robberies on Wednesday.

Eyewitnesses say over a hundred armed individuals from the Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF), a separatist group, fired warning shots before storming the banks. They were unable to breach the vaults but escaped with approximately 18 lakh taka from tellers and bank employees.

Md. Mamun, the nirbahi officer of Thanchi Upazila, has confirmed these incidents, stating that bank security has since been strengthened.

This comes after a Tuesday night raid by the KNF on a Sonali Bank branch in Ruma, where cash and firearms were stolen.
