BGB seizes Tk 1.36 billion worth of contraband, arms and drugs in June

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized smuggled goods worth approximately Tk 1.36 billion during operations conducted in border areas and other regions across the country in June 2025. The seizures included a range of contraband items, firearms, ammunition, and narcotics.

According to a BGB press release, the recovered firearms included two locally made pistols, one foreign pistol, two single-barrel guns, three shotguns, three mortar shells, 19 rounds of ammunition, and four hand grenades.

The seized smuggled goods included 4.338 kg of gold, 13,372 sarees, 3,500 three-piece garments, shirts, shawls, blankets, 548 ready-made clothing items, 2,147 metres of fabric, 225,096 cosmetic products, 4,578 imitation jewellery pieces, 664,508 fireworks, 6,345 cubic feet of timber, 4,903 kg of tea leaves, 31,974 kg of betel nuts, 17,769 kg of fertiliser, 10,540 kg of coal, 19,204 kg of yarn and fishing nets, 1,328 mobile phones, 1,850 mobile phone covers, 37,541 mobile displays, 15,519 eyeglasses, 2,182 kg of assorted fruits, 5,844 kg of edible oil, 1,000 litres of diesel, 3,182 kg of cumin, 1,336 seed packets, 7,492 shrimp fry, 1,150 kg of coffee, 547,246 chocolate bars, and 777 cows and buffaloes.

The seizure also included one touchstone idol, three buses, 10 trucks and covered vans, three pickup vans and Mahindra vehicles, seven private cars and microbuses, 138 boats, 27 CNG and electric rickshaws, 64 motorcycles, and 39 bicycles.

In addition to the contraband, BGB recovered a significant quantity of narcotics, including 1,268,015 yaba tablets, 7.925 kg of heroin, 1.43 kg of cocaine, 8,272 bottles of Phensedyl, 10,940 bottles of foreign liquor, 393.5 litres of locally made alcohol, 1,435 cans of beer, 1,698.707 kg of marijuana, 124,587 packs of cigarettes and bidi, 2,649 kg of tobacco leaves, 53,935 narcotic tablets and injections, 4,770 bottles of Eskuff syrup, 17 bottles of LSD, 12,376 Anegra and Senegra tablets, and 961,033 tablets of various other pharmaceutical substances.

During these operations, BGB detained 197 individuals on charges related to drug and contraband trafficking. Additionally, 155 Bangladeshi nationals and seven Indian nationals were arrested for illegal border crossing. The force also returned 335 Myanmar nationals who were apprehended while attempting to enter Bangladesh illegally.
