DUCSU election: Another Chakma student collects nomination form

Surmi Chakma, a student from the Chittagong Hill Tracts, has collected a nomination form to contest the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election.

She is the third Chakma student to seek candidacy this year, following earlier announcements by Hema Chakma and Sarba Mitra Chakma. Sarba Mitra is contesting from the Shibir-led United Students’ Alliance panel.

“Very soon I will present my position and work-plan for the DUCSU central parliament,” she added.

Earlier, Hema Chakma announced her candidacy through a lengthy social media post.

The DUCSU and hall union elections are scheduled for 9 September, after a gap of six years.

According to the timetable, nomination forms were available from 12 August until 4pm on 18 August. Monday marked the final day for collection.

University officials said forms were distributed from the office of Chief Returning Officer Professor Mohammad Jasim Uddin, on the third floor of the Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban.

The deadline for submitting forms is 19 August at 3pm. The final list of candidates will be published on 21 August at 1pm, following scrutiny.
