In response to the escalating anarchy in Bandarban district caused by the Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) terrorist group, Parbatya Nagarik Parishad has held a press conference, strongly condemning the situation.
They stated that it is unacceptable that KNF terrorists, who have looted bank money and weapons from law enforcement, will now be allowed to surrender their arms and return to negotiations. The KNF’s terrorist activities have intensified through discussions with the Peace Establishment Committee. The Parishad demanded that, alongside the recovery of government weapons, joint forces continue their operations to eradicate separatist armed terrorist groups like Kuki-Chin in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, ensuring the protection of national sovereignty and public safety.
Kazi Md Mojibur Rahman, chairman of the Parishad, made these remarks during a press conference at Hotel Grand Valley Restaurant on Thursday morning (May 23).
He highlighted that, for a long time, the residents of the Chittagong Hill Tracts have suffered from extortion, abduction, and murder at the hands of UPDF and JSS. Now, the KNF has established a new stronghold in the region. The Kuki-Chin group is attempting to create a Kuki-Chin state within Bangladesh, seeking full autonomy over nearly half of the Chittagong Hill Tracts. As a result, a series of killings, abductions, extortion, murders, and robberies have been observed in Bandarban, targeting both security forces and ordinary citizens.
Bandarban Nagarik Parishad’s general secretary Nasir Uddin, vice-president Abul Kalam Azad, general secretary Ershad Chowdhury, Lama upazila president Kamruzzaman, and general secretary Ruhul Amin, among others, were present.
