KNF’s women wing ‘chief coordinator’ held in Bandarban

Rapid Action Battalion on Friday claimed to have arrested a top coordinator of the ethnic armed group Kuki-Chin National Front’s women›s wing during the ongoing joint operation in Bandarban following the incidents of bank robberies, arms snatching, and abduction.
Akim Bawm, 18, was arrested from the Laimipara area in Bandarban Sadar upzaila at about 6:00am, said RAB-15 squadron leader Touhidul Mubin Khan.
He said that Akim served as the chief coordinator of KNF’s Bandarban Sadar and Rawangchari Zone women›s wing.
‘She received military training at home and abroad,’ the RAB official said.
He said that Akim worked as a recruiter of female members for the group.
On April 2, the armed group tried to loot Tk 1.5 crore from the vault of Sonali Bank’s Ruma upazila branch. In failure, they kidnapped the branch manager, Nizam Uddin.
The group also carried out robberies at Sonali Bank and Krishi Bank branches in Thanchi upazila of Bandarban on April 3.
They looted at least 12 firearms, 400 bullets, and Tk 17 lakh in cash during the attacks in Ruma and Thanchi.
On April 4, abducted bank manager Nizam was rescued from the Bathel Para area of Bandarban through the mediation of the Rapid Action Battalion.
