Rangamati’s Jwerti Tanchangya named to reserved seat in Parliament
PARBATTA NEWS REPORT
Jwerti Tanchangya, serving as the general secretary of the Awami League for Jibtali Union in Rangamati Sadar Upazila and a former Union Council member, has been appointed as a Member of Parliament for a reserved seat for women in Bangladesh’s twelfth National Parliament, party officials confirmed on Wednesday.
Musha Matbar, the general secretary of the Awami League in Rangamati district, confirmed Tanchangya’s appointment and expressed the party’s support.
“We are delighted to welcome her as an MP,” said Matbar, reflecting the party’s endorsement of her new legislative role.
The selection was part of a broader initiative by the ruling Awami League, which on Wednesday afternoon finalized its list of 48 women for the parliamentary seats reserved exclusively for female candidates. The names were announced by Obaidul Quader, the party’s general secretary.
The appointment process was preceded by a comprehensive meeting earlier in the day, led by Prime Minister and party President Sheikh Hasina, with 1,549 aspirants for the reserved seats.
