Rohingya leader hacked to death in Cox’s Bazar
A Rohingya community leader has been hacked to death by a group of unidentified miscreants in the Ukhiya refugee camp of Cox’s Bazar.
The deceased, Mohammad Ataullah, 50, was the majhi (community leader) of Balukhali camp no 19, Mohamamd Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Ukhiya police station confirmed.
He said the deceased was returning home from a local stall when he was attacked by a group of miscreants on Saturday morning. The attackers hacked him indiscriminately and fled the scene.
Later, local people rushed Ataullah to Uhkiya Upazila Health Complex where he was announced dead on arrival by the duty doctor, the OC added.
Police said they were conducting raids to nab the criminals.
The majhi was vocal against the presence and activities of Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (Arsa) at the camp, local people said.
He used to assist the law enforcers by providing various information on ARSA.
