Rohingya youth gets life in drug case

A court in Cox’s Bazar has sentenced a Rohingya youth to life-term imprisonment in a drug case.

The lifer is Syedul Islam, 32, a resident of Block-B/3 of Jadimura 27 No. Rohingya Camp in Teknaf upazila.

Cox’s Bazar District Judge Court Judge Md Ismail pronounced the verdict on Wednesday afternoon.

The court also fined him Tk 2 lakh, and in default, he will have to serve another year in jail.

The additional public prosecutor of the court, advocate Dilip Kumar Roy, confirmed the matter.

He said Border Guard Bangladesh detained Syedul Islam along with around 1.60 kilograms of ice or crystal meth from his fishing net in a drive at Damdamia Keura garden on May 19 of 2022.

Later, BGB filed a case with Teknaf Police Station in this connection.
