Armed assailants abducted two individuals, including a man who had just been married a day earlier, from a home in Teknaf’s Baharchhara union on Saturday night.
The victims were identified as Nur Kamal, 50, a resident of Jadimura in Hnila union, and Belal Uddin, 18, of Rangikhali area.
The incident took place around 8:30pm at the Marishbuniya residence of Tayeba, who had married Nur Kamal the day before, said local Union Parishad member Farid Ullah.
According to Tayeba, five armed men stormed her home and demanded Tk 6 lakh and gold ornaments, claiming they had taken a Tk 20 lakh contract to abduct her husband.
“They took 1.5 bhori of gold jewellery and Tk 15,000 in cash before taking my husband and my nephew Belal away at gunpoint,” she told reporters. Tayeba has a 10-year-old child from a previous marriage.
