Two KNF members arrested in Ruma; homemade guns recovered

Two active members of the Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) have been arrested in a military-led operation in Ruma, Bandarban.

The operation also uncovered a KNF hideout containing a cache of weapons and equipment.

Recovered items include: 7 homemade guns, 20 rounds of ammunition, KNF uniforms, a laptop used for terrorist activities, two pairs of boots and a knife.

The operation was conducted in the Bethel Para area of Ruma on Monday, 8 April.

Lieutenant Colonel KM Arafat Amin, commander of the Ruma zone, confirmed the arrests and seizure of the items.

These arrests and seizures come after the recent apprehension of three other KNF members suspected of involvement in robberies at two banks in Thanchi, Bandarban.

Authorities arrested a driver, Md. Kofil Uddin Sagar, and seized a vehicle allegedly used in the robberies.

Earlier on Sunday, Army Chief SM Shafiuddin Ahmed announced that several terrorists were arrested in an operation by the law enforcement forces in Bandarban.

He also mentioned that weapons were seized from them.

On the hot heels of the army chief’s statement, RAB also informed that it had arrested Cheosim Bawm, the chief coordinator of the central committee of KNF.

He was arrested from his home in Shyaronpara of Suwalok Union in Bandarban Sadar Upazila, according to the elite force.
