30 Rohingyas held in Cumilla while trying to cross over to India

Thirty Rohingyas including children and women were detained last night (October 5, 2022) from Burichang upazila of Cumilla while trying to go India illegally.

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained them from Jaamtal area, adjacent to the Indian border, last night; our Cumilla correspondent reports quoting Maruf Rahman, officer-in-Charge of Burichang police station.

Of the detainees, six were male, eight were female, and 16 were children, the OC said, adding that they were sent to Ukhiya Rohingya camp this afternoon after completing all the procedures.

They came to Cumilla from Cox’s Bazar by road yesterday and were detained by BGB while trying to cross the border illegally through brokers, Naik Subedar Abdul Khalek, commander of Kharera BGB camp.

BGB handed them over to Burichang police station this morning, added the commander.
