No directive for army deployment in DUCSU polls: ISPR

PARBATTANEWS DESK
Bangladesh’s military has said it has not received any government directive to perform duties in the upcoming central student union elections at universities.
In a statement on Thursday, the Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) said there was also no scope for the army to be involved in such duties in the future.
The clarification comes after reports in sections of the media and on social platforms suggested that the army might be deployed during the polls. ISPR said these reports had come to the attention of the military.
“The Government has not given any directive for the Bangladesh Army to perform duties in the upcoming central student union elections in the universities,” the ISPR statement said. “There is no scope of involvement in such duties in the future either.”
The military expressed confidence that the elections could be conducted peacefully with the direct cooperation of existing law enforcement agencies and under the overall supervision of university administrations.
The statement added that the Bangladesh Army wished success for all involved in the elections and conveyed its best wishes to everyone.
