1 Killed, 1 Injured in KNF landmine blast in Bandarban

A villager lost his life and another person sustained serious injuries when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by Kuki Chin National Front (KNF) terrorists exploded near Bandarban’s Thanchi-Ruma border.
The incident took place on Wednesday at the KNF hideout in Slopi para, situated in Ward No. 6 of Remakri Prangsa Union in Ruma Upazila.
The deceased, identified as Jewel Tripura (27), was a resident of Basi Ram Para in Ward No. 9, Remakri Union. The injured individual is Abraham Tripura (35).
According to local sources, the incident took place on Wednesday afternoon due to a landmine explosion in Ward No. 6 of Remakri-Prangsa Union, near the Thanchi-Ruma border.
Guleha Tripura (52), the father of the deceased, said that on Tuesday morning, a group of 21 people set out for Slopi Para to deliver supplies to the security forces.
Jewel and Abraham were injured when an IED landmine planted by the KNF detonated while they were traveling from Phainong Para to Slopi Para on Wednesday afternoon.
The injured were initially taken to Thanchi Upazila Health Complex, where the attending doctor pronounced Jewel dead.
The other injured person was transferred to Bandarban Sadar Hospital for further treatment, as the explosion had caused lung injuries.
Dr. Abdullah Al Noman of Thanchi Health Complex and Health Family Planning Officer Dr. Wahiduzaman Murad confirmed that the injured and deceased had sustained internal injuries to their lungs.
Due to the critical lung injuries, the surviving injured person was transferred to Bandarban Sadar Hospital for better medical care.
Assistant Inspector Yasin Ahmed, the officer-in-charge of Thanchi police station, said that the body would be handed over to the family following a post-mortem examination.
The case is currently under investigation in coordination with the officer-in-charge of Ruma police station, he said.
