Bangladesh set to return 330 fleeing Myanmar security forces

Bangladesh is preparing to repatriate 330 members of Myanmar’s military and Border Guard Police (BGP) on Thursday, after they sought refuge amid clashes with the Arakan Army, an insurgent group, officials said.
The repatriation, overseen by the navy, is scheduled for 8 a.m. on February 15 at the naval jetty in Inani, Cox’s Bazar, according to Md. Shariful Islam, Public Relations Officer of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
The individuals set for return include a mix of personnel from Myanmar’s military, BGP, immigration, and police forces, who had fled to Bangladesh in early February to escape the internal conflict. They will be transported from Hnila High School and Ghumdhum High School to the Inani jetty under tight security measures.
Among the group, nine have been receiving medical attention for various illnesses. Five are currently being treated at Cox’s Bazar Medical College Hospital and four at Chittagong Medical Hospital.
The move to repatriate these individuals follows their flight from Myanmar starting on February 4, as they sought safety from the violent confrontations with the Arakan Army. Since their arrival, the Border Guard Bangladesh has disarmed and sheltered them, pending their return.
